What are you supposed to wear when rock climbing?

i%26#039;ve never rock climbed and i dunno what to wear like should i wear tennis shoes, is jewelry okay, shorts or pants, that kind of thing. it is indoors

What are you supposed to wear when rock climbing?
Most rock gyms rent shoes, harnesses, and chalk bags so don%26#039;t worry about those items. (Remember to wear/bring socks.)

Not sure what types of jewelry you%26#039;re referring to but ones close to your body (i.e., earrings with studs/necklaces close to the neck/rings without settings) should be okay.

As for pants, a comfortable pair (preferably cargo-type shorts -- longer and roomier) are okay. If you%26#039;ll be in a harness, don%26#039;t wear sweat pants (long or short) -- especially if you%26#039;re modest. Also popular are long, looser canvas fabric pants.

Have fun and happy climbing!
Reply:No jewlery. Other than that, you can wear anything that%26#039;s comfortable and allows your limbs a full, unrestricted, range of movement. Keep in mind that if it%26#039;s hot outside, it will probably be even hotter in the gym. 3/4 length pants are popular because they protect your knees from scratches.

For others, it%26#039;s all about showing off their bodies, as if they were at the beach! I always thought climbing is a good way to put hair on your chest, so to me shaving my chest might be counterproductive, but that%26#039;s just me, lol.
Reply:Less worries in indoor climbing. You can rent your required gadgets except socks and clothing. Use rock climbing shoes. Short pants will facilitate your movements. Dont forget your gloves. No dangling jewelries. Remove your ring and wrist watch.

Have great fun!!!
Reply:Think of it like yoga. Wear comfortable loose fitting clothes. I would suggest yoga pants, or shorts but you might bang your shins up a bit. Wear socks as you will probably be renting climbing shoes with your harness, and everyone wears those shoes as well. When you get your own shoes that are not rented socks are no longer recommended. For the shoes you wear into the gym I would suggest something that gets on and off as easily as possible, loose tennis shoes or slippers. I use a pair of converse slip ons. The shoes you rent should be very tight right on the borderline of painful. You should not be able to wear them for more then 30 minutes at a time without feeling your toes begin to go numb. If you are comfortable standing in them then they are probably too loose.
Reply:The best footwear that you can wear besides rock climbing shoes is tennis shoes. Climbing shoes would help you climb better and you can rent them for about $5 at the rock gym. As for clothing, wear something that you would exercise in. Don%26#039;t wear shorts that are too short. Capris or pants would be best. Don%26#039;t wear jewelry that would get in your way: little earrings are ok just don%26#039;t wear big ones, and don%26#039;t wear rings, but it%26#039;s best if you don%26#039;t wear any jewelry at all. You will also need a harness and chalk, and belay device but you don%26#039;t need it if you%26#039;re the one climbing. Check out http://iclimblikeagirl.blogspot.com/2007...

this blog explains it really well.
Reply:they tell u at the place dont wear anything its only like 100 feet.
Reply:Shorts only with cotton paddings on knees.
Reply:don%26#039;t wear jewelry, it can bind up in the rope, wear shorts or athletic pants and a moisture wicking t shirt. rent some rock shoes when you get to the gym and a chalk bag. happy climbing

*update* wearing socks with your rock shoes is entirely up to you my friend, however socks can slip in the shoe, and you%26#039;ll never get the same feel for the footholds wearing socks.
