OCD in a toddler?

My son is almost 20 months. He is VERY tidy. If he finds his brother's shoes on the floor he takes them and puts them on the doormat with the other shoes. If he drops something on the floor he either picks it up and puts it in the trash or if it happes while we're out to eat he fusses until we can get it cleaned up for him. When he's done eating he won't leave the table until his plate and utensils are taiken away and washed. He will also try to take out the trash if the bag is getting full. If anyone around him is cleaning up he joins in - he'll clean up more toys than any of his siblings. On the otherhand, he loves to play outside and get dirty, he doesn't care if he gets food all over his face/hands (although he loves to wash his hands and we have to keep the bathrooms locked or else he will climb up to get to the sink or climb into the bathtub and turn on the water. He has 3 older siblings who were definitely not like this when they were his age. Could this indicate a problem?

OCD in a toddler?
Hey, I agree with the above posters saying that your son is showing autistic tendencies, but I doubt your son is Autistic. The likelihood of him being Autistic and only having this one symptom is very low.

Is he okay playing with others? Is he a loner? Does it sometimes seem like he can't understand how other people feel? If no to these questions then I don't think you have anything to worry about. A lack of empathy is a HUGE part of Autism, and if your son is at a normal empathic level, then I really, really doubt he's Autistic.

It sounds like your son may be showing signs of OCD at worst, but going by my instinct here, I would say that he's just a helpful little fellow! Don't worry about him and try to enjoy the assistance he gives you. :)
Reply:Well im not saying there is anything wrong with your son but I can only discribe my autistic son, he loves to play in dirt and mud, but if his shirt gets wet he has to have it taken off, or he will squeel till is taken off.
Reply:Don't want to worry you, and most likely it is nothing, but sometimes these behaviors are seen in autistic children. Keep an eye on him and get him tested in about a year.
Reply:If my son was as tidy and helpful I would be thrilled, lol!! I dont think its a problem at all! Especially if he can play outside normally....he just has a tidy personality!! Id think youd be loving the extra help with his other siblings!!
Reply:A problem? Are you kidding? That's marvelous! It's a good thing that he's such a helper!
