I Had a pretty serious rock climbing fall in November of 04' Broke my elbow, pelvis, hip, hip socket, to name a few. During surgery the doctors cut my ciatic? nerve so I lost feeling in part of my leg and all of my foot. I now need a brace and shoes to walk. I have always been a small guy but used to have some muscle mass. My question is what can I do for my right arm, which is broke, I can only move it at the shoulder, the elbow does not bend at all, to build some muscle in both my tri's and bi's without bending my elbow? Also since my foot doesnt bend or move at all is there anything I can do to make my leg /calf bigger. Thanks for any inspiration!
Can I build muscle with out moving a joint?
Electric Stimulation machines are available, but I don't think they're actually going to build muscle mass.
Maybe I just missed something but, the accident was in November of 04 and you're right arm is still in a cast? or are the two accidents unrelated? Oh don't worry about it, it doesn't really matter.
I spent almost 5 months in a cast on my right arm also, (finger tips to bicep) I lost a lot of muscle mass. What I did was I continued to work out my good arm and when my cast was removed I started working out my right arm harder than my left. oddly enough 14 years later my left arm (my non-dominate) is still stronger than my right.
Reply:not that i know of. bring this up with your doctor. maybe they can send you to physical therapy (if you havent already gone.... it sounds to me that you should have after you recovered some... since it was a bad fall) or an orthepidist- dont know how to spell it sorry.- but other than that i dont know. there are these weight things that you can wrap around your leg/arm/etc... and you can do lifting with that by wraping it around a certain part of your body and moving your shoulder(for your arm) or your hip(for you leg- although it sounds like you might have trouble moving your hip i dont know) but i hope you feel better.
Reply:You can ASK about isometric exercises, but please don't try it on your own - ask a physical therapist how to do it.
Reply:Dynamic tension: Flex your muscle as tight as you can for as long as you can and then relax. Build up day by day by flexing for longer periods of time and more frequently.
ie: Day 1: Flex your forearm for 10 seconds then repeat 10-12 times
Day 2: Flex forearm for 15 second... repeat 12 times
Try to work up daily.
Work all the muscles you want to build. But seperately
Reply:may want to ask a doctor or therapist on that one.
