ok a few weeks back i got all drunk and disorderly and went to chillers. anyhow i was wearing these platform girly shoes, open toe and decided to climb up on the roof. well the bouncer didnt like that, dont ask me why i did it.. i get stupid sometimes when i drink a lot. anyhow i jumped back to were i needed to be and broke my toe. so it was all black and fuggly looking. very fuggly actually. anyways the toe nail is barely hanging on. my question is if i just clip it off will it be ok? i mean im not gonna infect my toe or anything right?
So i broke my toe and was wondering....?
You can clip any part of the toenail that is not attached to the skin and you should be ok.
If there is bleeding under the toe that is causing pain you may have to go to somebody to get it removed to relieve the pressure.
Toenails usually take 9-12 months to grow back, but the cells that make the nail may become damaged, especially if they remain under pressure. This can cause the nail to grow back deformed.
If the toe is broken and still painful after a few weeks, it bay be because it doesn't have a chance to heal properly or the break is through the joint and hurts every time the joint moves. You may need part of the bone taken out if this happens. Do not worry, you will know if you need this done.
Reply:Sweety you really need to go to the emergency room. I know you say you can not afford it it but they will not turn you away for not being able to pay. The hospital will send you a bill and you can make arrangements to pay it off a little bit each month. Your toe will need to be taped up and the toenail removed, if you dont get this done your toe could heal the wrong way and cause a lot of pain in the future. I broke my toe as a teenager and it healed the wrong way and now there are some dress shoes I can not wear because they cause to much pain to my toe. Good luck and be careful.
Reply:Just let it fall off on it's own... It will heal properly. JUST DON"T MESS WITH IT!!! (and you probably already did...lol)
Reply:I broke my toe a few years ago back in '84 and the doc said it was broke, I say it wasn't. What had happened was, the toe joint slipped and the front part of my toe went up against the skin causing it to bruise, but it slipped back into its socket and I was sore for 3 weeks.
Reply:You need to see the Dr. to have the nail cut off sanitarily. He cannot set your toe.
You also need to wear tennis shoes when you get wiped out.
Reply:I understand your situation.
As far as the toenail is concerned, without seeing it it's hard to say. But so long as you do it in a somewhat sanitary (clean) manner and don't draw blood/break the skin, you should be fine. A toenail can take 12-18 months to fully regrow. I think you'll be wearing closed toed shoes for a while.
As far as the broken toe goes, the doctor is not going to do anything that you cannot do yourself. Tape the broken toe to a healthy one to splint it. You can add a tongue depressor as a spacer between the toes if you like. Try not to further agitate the toe and be gentle with it. Ice to reduce pain and swelling and Aspirin or Ibuprofen as necessary for pain.
Try not to climb on the roofs of too many more clubs, eh?
Reply:It should be alright, I jammed my index finger into a damn door hinge, it was also 'fuggly'. Eventually the nail just came off.
